Best book I ever read....

shit is so real.

A POST A DAY KEEPS THE COBWEBS AWAY

This is my new motto, lets see how long it lasts.

Had a very busy few weeks since we spoke last, my parents came and went, I moved into a new place, I shaved my head, I put my car up for sale, I drank some coffees and I passed some time. But what happens next?

I believe it's time for a quote from the amazing Mitch Hedberg: "I got a belt on, that's holding up my pants. And my belt has belt loops thats holding up my belt...I don't know what's really happenin' down there. WHO IS THE REAL HERO?"

This is what me and my moms and pops look like when we're really happy...

Dorks!

I've been skateboarding lots lately, me and some guys from work went to this skatepark out in Templeton on Sunday. Two car loads of us rolled up and had an awesome day. Some sick tricks went down, along with some sick slams! A good slam reminds you you're alive though...so it's all good...

and now, some iggy pop...

Moms and pops in the land of the long white cloud!

Yes, the rumours are true. My parents have arrived in New Zealand, and are pretty much over the jetlag.

It's damn good to see them, and to my surprise they haven't even aged that much! Feels like only the other week we were sitting at our local pub back home and having Chilli Con Carne baked potatoes.

Leaving on a road trip of the south island on Friday. Just me, my mum, my dad, and a 1994 Honda. Let the good times roll...

Stranger than fiction...

This guy came into the shop today with a snowboard that he'd attached skateboard trucks and wheels to. I asked him how it was, he said: "smooth man". Fair enough.

I did think about asking him if he knew what a skateboard (or even a longboard) was, but in the end I left him to it. Each to their own.

So I'm thinking about hitting the slopes on a surf board this snow season, anyone keen?

Racism on the radio...

Racism is so different over here. I mean, it's still very much present and the Maori's and white men are always arguing about something from years ago and calling each other names and all the bullshit that goes with it - Asian immigrants also take a bit of flack too.

Anyway, I was listening to a major New Zealand radio station on the way home from work today. The DJ's had a guy on the phone whose second name was Hood and his girlfriends second name was Church or something...one of the DJ's said jokingly: "I didn't think hoods and churches were a good mix!". The other DJ then pipes up "Nah, you're thinking of hoods and black people!"

Imagine if a DJ back in England got on the radio and said something like that...they'd get in heeeeeeeaaaaaaappppppppsssssssssss of shit. I'd heard racist comments on the radio before over here, but that one took the cake...

Maybe I'm being sensitive? I dunno, just seemed weird to hear something like that on mainstream radio ya'knowww.

Anyway, it's just funny. A bit weird too. Shit's so slack over here! Just the Kiwi way of life I guess...everybody's pretty chill and they just get on with things. They don't take stuff too seriously and I think it's a good thing...maybe that particular comment was a little over the boundary, but in general the Kiwi manifesto is pretty sweet.

On a completely unrelated topic, Krew are bringing out a range of shoes. Go peep them here http://kr3wdenim.com/blog/

They pretty much look like the illegitimate lovechild of an Emerica-Supra romance. Pretty fly though.

Christmas Down Underer...

Christmas in New Zealand was weird. Lovely and wholesome and just what Christmas should be, but weird.

It was mainly weird because it was really really hot. It was about 28 degrees on Christmas day, yet all the Christmas advertising (shop fronts, billboards etc) still had images of snowflakes and father christmas dressed in all his woolly finest. It didn't feel like Christmas as I knew it, but that wasn't actually a bad thing.

Because it felt so different, it didn't leave me with much room to get as homesick as I thought I would. If it had been cold, miserable and wet, I'm sure I would've been craving Christmas UK style a lot more. Shit, I didn't even miss the turkey! Summer salads and barbecued meat were on the menu instead, and it was really rather awesome.

After a family Christmas in Christchurch, we ventured down south, to Lake Wanaka, for our New Years holiday stint.

Wanaka was amazing. Driving down through the Southern Lakes district has to be seen to be believed. Lake Tekapo especially was magnificent, I've never seen water that was that kind of turquoise before.

In Wanaka we ate (too well), drank (too much) and spent most days on the Lake or down the surrounding rivers on a Subaru jetboat (which is way too much fun). I almost felt bad for all my cold British counterparts when I was zoooooming down the Clutha River, basking in glorious sunshine on said jetboat. Then I thought naaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

In all seriousness though, Wanaka was amazing. I highly recommend taking a trip there, and I dare you to try and take in all that scenery in a week.

More updates and pictures and stuff coming. I've made a new years resolution to blog way more often, whether it gets read or not, it makes me feel a hell of a lot more productive about my free time!

Cheers, happy 2010.
